Holiday parks and campsite drainage have to cope with sharp changes in demand. A quiet weekday can turn into a full site by Friday afternoon, with showers, toilets, wash-up areas and laundry rooms all working hard at once. When the ground is already wet, weak drainage shows itself quickly, puddles spread across pitches, standing water gathers near access roads and foul drainage problems can follow.
A properly designed soakaway helps manage that pressure. We assess the site, the soil and the expected loading before we recommend a system. That matters on parks with seasonal peaks, mixed accommodation and guest areas that must stay safe and usable in poor weather.
A practical approach for busy leisure sites
For campsites, caravan parks and holiday parks, soakaway installation is not just about digging a pit and laying pipe. Ground conditions vary across a single site, especially where grass pitches, hardstanding, amenity blocks and service roads sit close together. We look at infiltration, available space, access for machinery, and how the drainage layout will affect day-to-day operations.
Where a wider drainage issue may be hiding below ground, a CCTV inspection can help confirm the condition of existing pipework before new work starts.
If the site has an older off-mains system, we can also advise on related upgrades, including septic tank replacement where the existing setup no longer suits the property or current rules.
Compliance matters
For sites in England, drainage design must reflect the current legal position. The General Binding Rules state that septic tank or treatment plant effluent discharged to the ground should go through a drainage field, and that a rainwater soakaway installed after December 2007 is not suitable for sewage effluent.
That distinction is important on holiday sites, where surface water drainage and foul drainage are sometimes confused. We help clients understand what is appropriate for the site, what is compliant, and what is likely to hold up over time.
